AUGS Coalition Involvement
The following coalition/advocacy groups represent key organizations that have been identified as having strategic benefits to AUGS.
Coalition: Friends of National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
Membership & Goal: The Friends of National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is an independent coalition of over 100 organizations formed in the mid-1980s to support the important role of NICHD. Member organizations represent scientists, physicians, health care providers, patients, and parents concerned with the health and welfare of women, children, families, and people with disabilities.
The primary mission of the Friends of NICHD is to advocate on behalf of the Institute through the annual congressional budget and appropriations process. The Friends also promote NICHD-funded research activities and advances by sponsoring briefings for congressional staff, mailings to members of Congress and staff, drafting fact sheets, facilitating tours of the Institute and research facilities for Congressional staff, and submitting annual testimony to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees.
Coalition: Coalition for Improved Bladder and Related Pelvic Health
Membership & Goal: AUGS helped form this diverse collaborative group of more than 20 members that represent patients, providers, government, industry and related associations that advocate for women’s health care. This coalition also serves as an information clearinghouse.
Coalition: American Medical Association Specialty Group
Membership & Goal: AMA leads the dialogue for the entire network of provider groups/organizations and is aggressively involved in advocacy efforts related to the most vital issues in medicine today, including medical liability reform, Medicare physician payment reform, expanding coverage for the uninsured and increasing access to care, improving the public health, managed care reform, and others.
Coalition: American College of Surgeons Surgical Quality Alliance
Membership & Goal: The SQA brings surgical specialties together to define the principles of surgical patient quality measurement and develops awareness among interested parties about issues related to surgical care and quality in all surgical settings.
