Leadership and Professional Development Workshop

Registration Fee: $35

Target Audience: Fellows and Junior Faculty

Speaker: Lynn Perry Wooten, PhD, MBA, Clinical Associate Professor of Strategy and Management, Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan

Fellows and junior faculty are encouraged to attend this new course that has been designed specifically to provide you with guidance on how to manage your career and be prepared for the future. AUGS is very committed to ensuring that we are training our future leaders and we believe this course is the first step toward that goal. Dr. Wooten’s workshop will address the recurring trend where physicians tend to focus on developing clinical competencies, but allocate little time to developing leadership skills.  Yet, in many instances as physicians move up the career ladder, administrative skills and career management become important. In this session, we will focus on both topics by exploring the journey of leadership.  The session begins with examining the attributes of extraordinary leaders with a focus on the health care industry. In addition, we will analyze the enablers of leadership. Enablers are processes or techniques that leaders use to produce results through creating purpose, work practices and people.

During the second half of this session, we will focus on building a personal career brand. Through experiential exercises and case studies, you will develop a career brand based on personal strengths and aligned with career goals and collaborative relationships.
