Description: The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Good Samaritan Hospital started in 1992 and is fully accredited by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and American Board of Urology (ABU) since 1997.  The objective of the fellowship program is to provide a comprehensive education and training in the areas of urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery.  There is an emphasis on the diagnostic evaluation and management of lower urinary tract dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, defacatory dysfunction, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction and complicated benign pelvic surgery.  Fellows receive experience through an extremely large clinical volume of patients that are managed both medically and surgically.  A complete approach to the evaluation of pelvic floor disorders using multichannel urodynamics, cystourethroscopy, endoanal ultrasound and neurophysiologic testing is achieved.  Medical management includes biofeedback, physical therapy, pharmacologic therapy and the use of pessaries and other medical devices (i.e. sacral neuromodulation).  Surgical management includes a wide variety of procedures performed abdominally, vaginally, laparoscopically, and robotically.  Good Samaritan Hospital is a training facility for robotic surgery and has over 5 da Vinci robots including one designated solely for teaching and training.   All approaches to reconstructive pelvic surgery are emphasized with a broad range of surgical experience that includes rotations with a vulvar disease specialist, urology, and colorectal surgery.

Fellows will gain experience in both clinical and basic science research with opportunities to participate in the research of new medications, technology, surgical techniques and outcomes, as well as pelvic anatomy.  A year of research time is allocated for fellows to pursue their own area of interest with support from the Hatton Research Foundation and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  Fellows are provided laptop computers and are required to take graduate level courses in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.  The opportunity for a Masters Degree is available depending upon department approval.

Salary is > $50,000 per year and dependent upon PGY level.  Additional benefits include free health insurance, dental insurance, professional liability insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, free health club membership, free parking, office space, lab coats, physician dining room, and student affiliation with the University of Cincinnati.  Fellows attend both Scientific Meetings for AUGS and SGS as well as the opportunity to attend meetings in Las Vegas and Hawaii.  Fellows are allowed up to 4 weeks of vacation time per year.
