This non-ACGME-approved fellowship is a two-year comprehensive clinical program at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the largest hospitals in the Los Angeles area. The goal of this program is to teach qualified applicants to become experts in the management of pelvic organ prolapse, female urinary incontinence and other urogynecologic disorders. The program is managed under the auspice of Dr. Cynthia Hall, who is also Co-Director of the Center of Women’s Continence and Pelvic Health.
One fellow is chosen every two years for the Cedars-Sinai's Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program. Applicants must have completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at an accredited facility and must be Board-certified or Board-eligible.
The Urogynecology fellow will spend the bulk of his/her time with Dr. Hall who exclusively sees women with urogynecologic disorders such as prolapse, incontinence, urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, and pelvic muscular dysfunction. Diagnostic testing done in the office includes cystoscopy and urodynamics. Patients are offered a wide range of potential therapies ranging from pelvic exercises, to pharmacologic treatment, to the use of pessaries, to surgical repair. Surgical cases represent the full breadth of Urogynecologic and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, including vaginal, open abdominal, and laparoscopic pelvic reconstructive procedures. Sacral Nerve Stimulation is also performed.
As expected, there is significant overlap of these disorders with other pelvic disorders, such as pelvic pain, defecatory dysfunction, fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, and irritable bowel. The Center for Women’s Continence includes specialists in Urology, Endourology, Colorectal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Minimally invasive Gynecology, and Physical Therapy. Dr. Hall fully utilizes the specialists in these fields and they welcome the fellow in their clinics and operative cases in order to provide a well rounded experience.
Clinical conferences, seminars, journal club and one-on-one instruction are also important parts of the Cedars-Sinai Urogynecology Fellowship Program. The fellow is given one full day per week to pursue research endeavors and is intimately involved in the teaching of residents and medical students.
Please contact the website (currently under construction as of 11-17-07) or Joanne Tkaczyk for further information. Interviews of applicants after recept of completed applications will take place in December and January for the following July.
