AUGS Foundation Research Grant

June Allyson Memorial Research Grant

Astellas Research Career Award

Astellas Research Award (two awards)

Thomas Benson Award in Neuromodulatiom (six awards)

Fellows Only:
AUGS Foundation Research Grant is funded through the generous donations to the AUGS Foundation. This grant will be awarded to a fellow with a clinical patient-oriented research project. It is expected that work supported by these funds will lead the applicant to obtain additional funding. Successful applications must be well focused, feasible and present a clear pathway from the fellow’s present state to the acquisition of future funding.

June Allyson Foundation Memorial Research Grant
will be awarded to a fellow with a laboratory-based research project. It is expected that work supported by these funds will lead the applicant to obtain additional funding. Successful applications must be well focused, feasible and present a clear pathway from the fellow’s present state to the acquisition of future funding.

  • Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must:
o Be an active, life, honorary or allied health member of AUGS

o Be a current fellow in either an accredited or non-accredited fellowship program.

o Have a senior research mentor or mentoring team. Mentors or co-investigators need not be members of AUGS.

o Remain at the same institution for the entire funding period.

Highly Encouraged: Fellows present evidence of current involvement in research activities, a long-term commitment to an academic research career, and are currently involved in research training or who have completed research training.

Note: Prior recipients of the AUGS Foundation Research Grant, Astellas Research Grant (as a fellow), and/or the June Allyson Foundation Research Fellowship Award are not eligible.

  • Evaluation of Applications
The evaluation of applications will be the responsibility of the American Urogynecologic Society Foundation Grants Review Committee. Criteria for selection will consist of the following:
• The quality and importance of the proposed research project.
• The scholarly, clinical and research qualifications of the candidate and mentoring team.

• Pathway to the acquisition of future funding.

• The accuracy and completeness of the application.
A broad range of types of research projects are acceptable including secondary data analysis, prospective cohort studies, retrospective cohort studies, nested case-control and case control studies, cross-sectional studies, and randomized controlled trials (RCT). It is understood that with the limited funds available, it is unlikely a RCT would be feasible.

Thomas Benson Award in Neuromodulation is funded through an educational grant from Medtronic. Six $7,500 grants will be awarded to support research or advanced training that is neuromodulation specific and dedicated to practical clinical use in a new or unique approach.

  •  Additional Application Requirements

    • Must be in an accredited or non-accredited female pelvic medicine fellowship program.

    • Must submit an abstract of your research to a future AUGS Annual Meeting. A $1,000 has been built in as a travel grant to attend the 2009 AUGS Annual Meeting.

    • A final report of your research results or educational activity is due by December 15, 2009.

    • These grants do not require an advanced degree or formal research training. An active research environment should be documented for research proposals.

This grant is for junior faculty who are developing or already committed to an academic research career, currently participating in formal research training, or have secondary degrees such as a PhD, MPH, or have already obtained NIH training awards (K awards, BIRCWH, WRHR) and are seeking to gain future independent funding.

  • The Application Requirement and Evaluation of Applications are the same as the AUGS Foundation & JAF with the additional requirements:

o Junior Faculty only, defined as at the Assistant Professor level or lower, practicing FPMRS clinicians within 5 years of fellowship training,  and who are active in research.

o Not eligible - Candidates at the Associate Professor and Professor level.

o Junior faculty may include salary support that may not exceed 50% of the award.
Fellows and Junior Faculty:
Astellas Research Award (2 awards)
is funded by a generous grant from Astellas USA Foundation. This grant will be issued to two applicants who are currently and/or have been actively involved in research activities and are in a supportive research environment.
  • Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must:
    • Be an active, life, honorary or allied health member of AUGS.

    • Remain at the same institution for the entire funding period.

Not eligible: Candidates at the Associate or Professor level or > 5 years after completion of a fellowship.

Note: In general, prior recipients of the Astellas Research Grant are not eligible. Prior recipients of an AUGS Foundation Research Grant, the June Allyson Research Grant, or Astellas Grant (awarded during fellowship) will not be eligible for two years from the date of successful completion of the previous award.

  • Evaluation of Application
The evaluation of applications will be the responsibility of the American Urogynecologic Society Foundation Grants Review Committee. Criteria for selection will consist of the following:
• The quality and importance of the proposed research project.
• The likelihood that the candidate will remain active in research.

The Application Requirements and Evaluation of Applications are similar to the AUGS Foundation & June Allyson Memorial  Research Fellowship Award with major emphasis on the research project and current research activity.
