    Get Involved in AUGS

    By: Matthew D. Barber, M.D., M.H.S.

Last week we released our annual call for Officers and Volunteers (link).  AUGS depends heavily on involvement of the members to fulfill the Society’s mission and achieve its goals. It is not an overstatement to say that volunteers are the lifeblood of the Society. The strength of the Society is the result of the time and effort put in by those who volunteer to serve their colleagues and help advance our profession.

Given our rapidly changing and expanding field, we need you now more than ever. I strongly encourage you to put your name in for one or more of the numerous opportunities available including Officer, Board of Directors, Committee membership, Journal Reviewer, and abstract/video reviewer for the annual meeting. Whether you are early in your career or more senior, there are opportunities for you. This year there are specific opportunities for fellows as well.

If you would like to get involved, please go to this link for more details about the positions available and the application. You must have your application in by May 31st to be considered. Elections for Officers and Board of Directors will occur in June and appointments to Committees and other volunteer positions for 2012-2013 will occur later in the summer/early fall. While it is not always possible to give everyone their first choice, we use the list of applicants from the Call as our pool of volunteers throughout the year to fill new positions or task forces as they come up or when vacancies become available. Last year many new opportunities became available throughout the year and I am sure the same will be true for the upcoming year so be sure to get your name in.

Also, if you are interested in applying for the AUGS Leadership Program that we announced earlier in the month, your application is also due by May 31st.

If you have questions about the positions, the application, or the process, please contact info@augs.org.
