A Timeline of AUGS History

  • 1979 – Donald R. Ostergard, Jack Robertson, Finnis Wiggins, Earl Fuller, and Fred Jansen form Gynecologic Urology Society
  • 1980 – First Annual Scientific Meeting held in New Orleans, Louisiana
  • 1981 – First edition of Educational Objectives for Postgraduate Education in Gynecologic Urology are developed
  • 1986 – Name is changed to American Urogynecologic Society
  • 1992 – SmithBucklin assumes management of AUGS
  • 1996 – First ABOG/ABU accredited fellowship program
  • 1997 – Kimberly Clarke provides endowment for creation of June Allyson Foundation
  • 1999 – First NIH RFA for the study of pelvic floor disorders following trip to NIH and work by AUGS leadership to lobby for research funding
  • 2001 – First AUGS Resident Scholars sponsored by Eli Lilly & Co
  • 2001 – The AUGS Foundation is formed to support research regarding the causes, prevention, cure and treatment of urogynecologic disorders
  • 2006 – The AUGS Foundation awards its first research grant
  • 2008 – The June Allyson Foundation merges with the AUGS Foundation
  • 2009 – 30th Annual Scientific Meeting in Hollywood, Florida
