Call for Position Statement Writing Group Volunteers

Guidelines for Privileging and Credentialing Physicians for Placement of Mid-Urethral Slings for Stress Urinary Incontinence

AUGS is currently seeking volunteers to serve on a Writing Group to develop a Position Statement on Guidelines for Privileging and Credentialing Physicians for Placement of Mid-Urethral Slings for Stress Urinary Incontinence. Support from AUGS staff will be provided.

AUGS has affirmed its support for the use of mid-urethral slings (MUS) in the surgical management of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), based on evidence documenting its safety and efficacy. However, the safety of any surgical device depends on its proper use by the surgeon and, therefore, appropriate training is necessary to achieve optimal results.

This document will provide a framework for outlining the learning curve for surgeons in the performance of MUS, provide an overview of the current training requirements in obstetrics and gynecology and urology, derive guidelines for minimal numbers of MUS needed prior to initial privileging, and denote maintenance of privileges and the role of the surgical proctor.

The current landscape for credentialing in urogynecology procedures is not well defined. Recommendations for how to credential physicians in this area will raise awareness of the training provided in this specialty, lead to more rigor in the privileging of surgeons, and improve quality of care.

AUGS is seeking a writing group chair and writing group members. Participation requires the following:

  • regular communication via email
  • monthly conference calls
  • completion of assignments
  • expected 12 months commitment

Please submit a letter of interest stating your qualifications for the position, a brief CV, declaration of interest in the writing group chair or member position, and financial and intellectual conflict of interest disclosures.

Deadline: September 25, 2025

Please log in to the AUGS Member Portal to complete the volunteer form.
