Learning Objectives
- Perform a comprehensive, evidence-based evaluation of urinary incontinence and related pelvic floor disorders, incorporating history, examination, validated questionnaires, and appropriate diagnostic testing.
- Integrate neurourology principles and urodynamic interpretations to guide individualized, mechanism-based treatment planning.
- Apply contemporary best practices for overactive bladder (OAB) management, including behavioral therapies, pharmacologic options, and third-line modalities such as neuromodulation and intradetrusor therapies.
- Develop evidence-guided strategies for managing complex or refractory OAB through case-based reasoning and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Incorporate an understanding of pelvic floor anatomic variation when selecting and tailoring nonsurgical management strategies for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI).
- Demonstrate knowledge of perioperative optimization, intraoperative considerations, and postoperative complication management relevant to urogynecologic procedures.
- Identify and compare evidence-based surgical approaches for stress urinary incontinence (e.g., midurethral slings, Burch colposuspension, bulking agents) and pelvic organ prolapse (e.g., native tissue repair, mesh-augmented reconstruction, with or without hysterectomy).
- Recognize, prevent, and manage lower urinary tract injuries and genitourinary fistulas in Urogynecologic surgery.
- Apply current best evidence to the evaluation and management of UTIs, bladder pain syndrome, accidental bowel leakage (ABL), and female sexual dysfunction in the urogynecologic setting.
- Describe key congenital anomalies of the lower urinary and reproductive tracts and their implications for diagnosis, counseling, and management.
- Incorporate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to enhance patient-centered, culturally responsive care across the spectrum of pelvic floor disorders.
